6 Things to Do at Pattaya Walking Street near Hotels
A nightlife and entertainment hub, the Pattaya walking street near hotels is the most famous road in the area. Here are six things to do along this lively road.
The Pattaya Walking Street is what tourism is to Thailand – a key part of its economic power. An exciting flea market in the daytime, this Pattaya walking street becomes a mecca for nightlife as twilight falls. That’s not to say there are only go-go bars and ladyboy shows on that road that never sleeps. Visit, and you’ll experience an intoxicating blend of Thai and international cuisine, live music, Thai culture, and souvenirs galore. Read on to catch a glimpse of all that. Here is TAGTHAi’s pick of six things to do at Pattaya Walking Street near hotels.
1. Shop for Souvenirs
Start the evening with a leisurely walk down this 800m-long street aglow with bright neon lights. From 7 pm to 3 am daily, it’s closed to vehicles. As you stroll along this red-light area, you will come across plenty of souvenir shops selling clothes, trinkets, and handicrafts, flush against toy and jewelry shops. Aside from elephant pants and witty statement shirts, a great souvenir is also a drawn portrait. You can get one on the spot because several artists paint and draw in various styles.
You’re probably wondering whether you should stay at one of the hotels on Pattaya's walking street, within spitting distance of beer bars, clubs, live music venues, and sports bars. If you don’t mind that there’s life until the early hours, W14 Pattaya and Walking Street Guest House are popular hotels, the latter of which is budget-friendly.
2. Eat Dinner
So as not to end up like those foreigners who can’t remember where they’re staying, ensure you eat enough before binge drinking starts. With a globetrotting selection of Thai seafood, Russian and Italian restaurants, pizzerias, Indian chicken tikka masala joints, and even Turkish ice cream shops, you’re spoiled for choice on Pattaya Walking Street near hotels. Some of these exotic restaurants overlook Pattaya Bay, making them laid-back places suitable for beginning your night out on the town.
You can also grab a bite in the middle of the boulevard. A typical scene you may want to capture is the vendors walking up and down the street with hand-pushed street food carts. They usually sell chilled drinks and crispy Thai snacks like banana roti – sweet, pan-fried bread with chocolate sauce. You’re sure to find Pad Thai on
Pattaya Beach walking street, too. The stir-fried rice noodle dish includes shrimp or chicken topped with peanuts, scrambled eggs, and bean sprouts.
3. Listen to Live Music
Are you into live music? Then you’ll like to learn that up to 10 live bands perform in beer bars and pubs every night. Talented individuals sing local and Western songs as people dance or take it easy, sipping beer or a cocktail. A Singha or Chang beer, ice-cold with condensation forming on the outside of the bottle, costs around 100 baht (approx. $3).
As you can hear them singing and playing the drums from the street, you don’t even need to step inside. But sitting in one of these live music venues or sports bars is an excellent opportunity to watch the world go by. While you enjoy people-watching, spotting 50-somethings with a childlike sparkle in their eyes, you’ll also notice the street performers entertaining folks with various tricks.
4. Enjoy a Massage
The benefits of a Thai or aromatic oil massage are well-known: it eases tension, relaxes your muscles, and jet lag melts away. Just as soothing is a foot massage; you’d be surprised. Targeting specific pressure points, the therapist kneads and rubs your feet.
Massage parlors are a dime a dozen in Pattaya, many on the Pattaya walking street. You can pop in virtually anywhere. While Kanenoyu Hotstone Spa is not exactly in the middle of the action but less than a kilometer from the Pattaya walking street, it’s well worth visiting. Try the Gambanyoku Set, a Japanese hot stone spa treatment; it’s pure bliss. As the therapist applies warm oil to your skin during a two-hour oil massage, we can almost guarantee they will send you off to Snoozeville.
Kanenoyu Hotstone Spa is one of the oldest in the city. And the best part, it’s included in the Pattaya Day Pass, which can save you over 50% of what you’d typically pay. Need an example? At Cape Dara Resort, one of the Pattaya hotels near the Pattaya walking street, a one-hour Thai massage costs a whopping $44. If you travel with TAGTHAi’s City Pass, it’s included.
5. Watch a Muay Thai Boxing Fight
Have you ever considered watching a Muay Thai boxing fight when wondering about what to do in Pattaya at night? You should! Unlike elsewhere in Thailand, it’s free here. Watching the athletes kick and box across from the entrance of Marine Plaza, right in the middle of Pattaya walking street near hotels, gives you an authentic taste of Thai culture.
If you’ve tried this sport before, you can enter the ring and test your skills. Or snap pictures with the boxers and show your appreciation by tipping them. As an aside, there is no shortage of Muay Thai gyms in Pattaya, should you want to dabble in this martial art that’ll give you strength and endurance.
6. Party the Night Away
Finally, the best things to do in Pattaya at night include painting the town red. And there’s no better place to do that than on the Pattaya Walking Street near hotels. This boulevard of intact dreams boasts over 100 nightclubs and go-go bars. They emerged in the 1960s and 1970s to cater to sailors from the US who docked at the port of Pattaya. Today, the scantily clad ladies, boys, and everything in between still advertise the best shows amid flashy neon lights.
While we discourage you from visiting sex shows as you may have to dig deeper into your pocket, there’s nothing wrong with dancing to pumping beats and drinking a beer and whisky or two.
If you’re into shows, we can highly recommend the Tiffany Show, a cabaret show with glamorous dancers in feathery costumes. That, and many other benefits are included in the Pattaya Day Pass, which is budget-friendly at $55.
