Phuket is located in the south of Thailand. The southern landscape consists of the mainland and is surrounded by a beautiful sea, so the weather is quite warm and tropical. For planning, the best months to visit Phuket are from November to April, but the peak time is from December to January. During the peak months, the weather is nice with a clear blue sky as a perfect backdrop.

For the other months, tourists should be aware of the monsoon season, causing heavy rain and humidity. If you do not mind the weather, it can somehow be enjoyable with cheaper accommodation than the peak months and fewer crowds.

Now you know when to travel to Phuket! Next, I will guide you to the most popular places and events to keep an eye on– starting from November till April.

November

Maya Bay, Phuket
Maya Bay

This month is the beginning of winter in Thailand, but the winter climate for the country near the equator is pretty chill and sunny. It is an ideal time for diving and snorkeling in several touristy spots like Phi Phi and Surin Islands. Loi Krathong is a cultural festival and is scheduled for this month. A local practice is going to pray and worship to the water goddess or Phra Mae Khongkha in Thai. If you would like to experience local culture together with sea activities, do not hesitate to come to Phuket in November.

December

It is a joyful and celebratory month of the year – with the celebration of Christmas and New Year's Eve. Of course, this month is a popular month in Phuket. Though it is crowded, the weather is wonderful. You can enjoy dry and sunny days with around 8 hours of sunshine daily. The sea condition is perfect for outdoor hanging and sea activities. If you are also looking for nightlife to celebrate, I proudly present Patong which it is full of seafood, lighting, and other liveliness at night.

January

Diving and explore the ocean in Phuket
Diving and explore the ocean

It is the best month to be in Phuket. Because of the tropical climate, you can be assured that this is a rain-free month. It's best to spend time outside on a warm and sunny day. The sea is as pretty as a clear picture, which suits diving and swimming well. The recommended spots are Koh Racha, Koh Hey, Phi Phi, and Similan Island. The overall weather is excellent across different Thailand locations, so besides Phuket, you can also travel to other major cities like Bangkok and Chaing Mai during your trip.

February

Create a memorable moment by the beach
Create a memorable moment by the beach

This month is warmer than the previous months. It has longer sunshine hours, up to 9 hours a day, but the weather might oddly rain during this month. If you would like to enjoy beaches, it is another good month for snorkeling and diving. Talking about a special day, it is a romantic month because of Valentine's Day. Who would not love to have a memorable Valentine's Day by a beach? I will guide you to some restaurants to have a delicious seafood dinner with an amazing coastal view: (1) The Beach Restaurant at The Surin is located at a private beach– Pansea Beach, (2)  Old Siam at Thavorn Beach Village is a super private restaurant, setting only 4 - 5 sala or pavilions and (3) The Cove at Panwa is a small open-air restaurant located on Ao Yon Beach.

March

March comes with dryness and humidity, so you can expect some rainy days as almost the end of the winter. Staying in Phuket during this month, you may go to the sea activity with the average visibility. Do you also love local culture and activities? There is an important festival in Phuket, called Thao Thepkasattri-Thao Sri Suntorn Festival (Thao Thep Festival). The festival consists of bicycle racing, a takraw (volleyball played with the feet) tournament, a mini-marathon, muay thai, and many more for you to explore. If watching sports is not your type, Thao Thep fair, which is a local street market, has several kinds of shops from food to handmade survivors.

April

This month is a special one where you can enjoy Phuket beaches and festivals in Thailand. The Thai biggest festival, known as Songkran or water festival, is scheduled for this month. If you would like to explore and celebrate the festival, locals and tourists gather on the major streets or areas, such as Bang-La and Patong, for splashing water and having fun from April 13 till 15. Besides the event, there are other traditions such as building sand castles at temples and praying with respect to the elderly. No wonder, both foreigners and Thais choose Phuket as their holiday destination for this month. Just a minor caution! April is typically the hottest month in Thailand, so the heat level might cause sun-burned skin and heat stroke.

During the best months, there is no reason why you should hold yourself back from travelling to Phuket. You will have a great time with the sunny weather, lovely painted sky, clear blue sea, and soft white sand. I bet if you choose Phuket as your destination during those months, you will have a blast with your family, friends, or partner. Apart from Phuket beaches, if you feel something is still missing, you can choose to travel with access to tons of attractions and restaurants with Phuket Pass.
